New Moon Official Volturi Promo Pics

Check it! Here’s the very first high quality promo pic of some of the Volturi of the Volturi in New Moon, as played by Cameron Bright.

The black and crimson looks very regal yet foreboding, and the background takes the brown naturalistic elements of the poster and earlier promo pics to Italy to give an old-world feel.

Chris Weitz Interview on His Vision of the Volturi & Much More!

Check out this 21-questions style interview with New Moon director Chris Weitz, where he goes into depth on a lot of the aspects of the movie that are on the mind of fans, including the camera-shy Volturi:

The Volturi. Can you talk about your vision for this new group of characters?

CW: No matter how strange one of the characters is in a work of fantasy, I think you kind of have to approach them as people, and so you start to think, well, they’ve been around for 2,000 years. How would they live? How would they interact with one another? The conclusion really was that after 2,000 years, you would probably be more than mildly insane, no matter how cultured or gracious you appear on the surface.

I think that’s what Michael Sheen really managed to convey in portraying Aro, the head of the Volturi, which is that on the surface, he’s terribly gracious, warm, a wonderful host, and yet at the same time he’s absolutely lethal and frightening, and it’s also kind of what Dakota Fanning kind of conveys as Jane. She’s this, in appearance, very innocent-looking, harmless-looking almost kind of a teenager, but she’s absolutely deadly.

The first thing I wanted to do was to put them in a setting that wasn’t sort of Dracula’s castle. Because I feel that’s been done, there have been so many vampire movies and werewolf movies and horror movies where everything is dreary and dark and everything is blue or green, and instead for their headquarters to be surprisingly light and crisp, and then the characters that they play have kind of a tactile reality to them, in spite of how kind of bizarre their situation is. And the whole point is not to leave kind of Forks, Wash. where everything has been very realistic, and then suddenly go to a location that completely throws you out of the movie.

So that’s kind of a difficult balance to achieve. And the set, although it’s huge and grand and magnificent, actually kind of feels like a real place. One always has the option in these kinds of situations of shooting everything in green screen and adding the set later, and I’ve done that before, but in this case, it felt really important to actually build something that surrounded the characters, that they could interact with and that had a real sense of existing in in actual space.

Chris Weitz on Noot Seear as Heidi: “Unearthly Beauty” with “Menace”

New Moon director Chris Weitz gives his take on the addition of fashion model Noot Seear to the role of Heidi in the film–

The striking beauty is stepping up her career and appearing in the second
installment of the Twilight films, entitled New Moon, where she will play a
cliquey vampire named Heidi who runs in the exclusive Volturi circle. And with
those killer green peepers and razor-sharp cheekbones, it’s unsurprising her
main talent is luring human prey.

New Moon director Chris Weitz told WWD : “We wanted someone who had an unearthly and unlikely beauty, but could also convey humour and menace. It’s rare to find a stunningly attractive person who also happens to have the ability to act.” According to reports, Weitz also considered Beverly Hills 90210 actress AnnaLynne McCord for the role.

Noot also talks about the continued difficulties with the contacts she had to wear in order to play the role of Heidi–

She admits she was worried her modeling years would hinder her acting chops. “I
was really scared because you’re not allowed to look in the camera [when filming
a movie], but in the modeling world, you’re supposed to,” recalls Seear, whose
problem was solved by the heavy-duty violet contacts she had to wear on-screen.
“I literally couldn’t see 2 feet in front of me. They would tell me, ‘Look at Kristen [Stewart],’ and I was like, ‘OK. Where is she?’”

On the Set of New Moon in Vancouver: The Volturi In-Depth

Rounding out the media outlets that visited the set of New Moon in Vancouver is Rotten Tomatoes. They have a set report where they go into detail on the Volturi interior shots. This description of Jane sounds amazing–(spoilers!)–

Focus fell particularly on Fanning, dressed in a soft, vintage-style white
dress, a dark velvet cape, and Mary Janes. Her blonde hair swept into a bun,
with pale skin and scarlet lips and dark eye makeup, she had the look of a
textbook Little Red Riding Hood — albeit one with blood-red eyes and a steely
eeriness about her.

“She’s immune to all of us,” Michael Sheen as Aro mused,
directing his warrior to turn her pain-inducing powers on Bella. “Shall we,
Jane?” With nary a peep, Fanning’s eyes lit up. She turned her head towards
Bella/Kristen Stewart, and gave a slight, cruel smile. Well, the hint of a
smile, really.

The tension was palpable; in that miniscule movement I was sold
on Fanning — at 15 years of age, one of New Moon’s seasoned veterans — and her
ability to convey unadulterated malice. On film, you’ll see her bring poor
Robert Pattinson to his knees, and you might even enjoy it.

What we're imagining...

The dark velvet cape...

The tight bun..

The white vintage dress..

(Cute!) Mary Janes..

What do you think, Twilighters? Is this just adding to the anticipation? For me, it's making it worse! Because we have to wait so long!!

New Moon Set Report from Fandango

The New Moon madness continues as the veil of non-disclosure was lifted today, with another media outlet sharing their set report from Vancouver.

Lizerne Guiting has a report for Fandango, and she notes–

The Voluturi! Oh the Volturi! They’re straight from the pages of Stephenie Meyer’s book! The freaky red eyes, pale skin, the chic Italian clothes, a family crest pendant – everything down to the smallest detail — suits their coven perfectly. They make a deliciously deadly vampire mafia. We got to watch Rob Pattinson and Kristen Stewart film a bunch of scenes near the film’s ending, and also interviewed a LOT of the cast and crew: Taylor Lautner, Michael Sheen, and Rachelle Lefevre to name a few.

Read the report over at Fandango.

UPDATE: There’s another report from MSN that covers similar territory from a fan’s perspective.

More 'New Moon' Italy Photos!

Twilighters Italia have done it again. They've given us another taste of New Moon in Italy to ease our curiousity.

Celebrating St Marcus' Day!

Red Flags decorating the streets of Italy, celebrating St Marcus' Day

This is where the Volturi live, that's the opening to their dungeon :) Except personally, I would have chosen something a little bit less conspicuous.. something old and dark covered in a blanket of moss or leaves.. something humans wouldnt see just walking by.

This is the waiting room chair, where Edward, Bella and Alice sit in the Volturi dungeon. Imagine Bella on Edward's lap in one of these slots? It looks awesome anyway, very antique and Volturi like.

Rob Has Arrived In Italy

Edward is preparing to provoke the Volturi! Twilighters Italia is reporting that Robert Pattinson arrived in Italy this morning after his whirlwind week in Cannes. Ashley Greene and Kristen Stewart are reportedly arriving this weekend.

How exciting! And would you look at what the beautiful Italians job with the fountain? It's looking great!

The Volturi look "amaaaazing"

Melissa Rosenberg, the script writer of New Moon, has posted up a blurb on her Facebook page.
It seems the filming of New Moon is going great! I am so happy to hear that it's all going well! They've chosen a phenomenal cast, and the budget is a lot larger... so I'm guessing it's going to be "amaaaazing", as Melissa stated. Here's the blurb below.

Writing from the set of New Moon, a ridiculously happy place to be. Everyone is having a gas. Especially me. You'd expect at least one person to be snarky after working so hard for so long but I haven't heard a single sour note. Chris Weitz is the zen ringmaster doing a fantastic job. The Volturi look amaaaazing. Michael Sheen embodies Aro so completely, elevating the role to a whole new level. Dakota as Jane knocks me out. Rob and Kristen are gorgeous of course and and and... I probably shouldn't gush so much, no one will believe that everything is perfect but it is!

Beautiful beyond description and the perfected image of grace, Heidi tempts all she comes near. She appears heartless (no pun intended) as she enjoys and relishes her job and has no pity on any who suffer under her suffocating presence. We first meet Heidi when she in counters Edward Bella underneath Volterra: "She was dressed to emphasize that beauty. Her amazingly long legs, darkened with tights, were exposed by the shortest of miniskirts. Her top was long-sleeved and high-necked, but extremely close-fitting, and was constructed of red vinyl. Her long mahogany hair was lustrous, and her eyes were the strangest shade of violet-a color that might result from blue-tinted contacts over red irises."

Their Early History: Nothing is known of Heidi during her early years as a vampire nor how she can to be a vampire. That remains a mystery to Twilight readers.

Edward was found to have not committed but Felix still wishes for Edward's destruction. Felix is seen as "very big, tall, and thick" much like the size of Emmett Cullen. He has an olive complexion which looks odd combined with his chalky pallor. Short cut hair that is jett completes his physical oddities. Unlike most vampires, especially those in the Volturi, Felix does not have a special ability.

Their Early History: Nothing is known about Felix as a human, how he was turned into a vampire, or how he joined the Volturi.

BIO: Alec

Name: Alec

Type: Vampire

Special Ability: Blocks the senses

About Them: A member of the Volturi's guards, Alec is able to block people's senses. His extremely powerful gift can make people blind, deaf, and numb to any feeling if he wishes to. Unlike many of the vampires his gift is visibly and it appears in the form of a clear hazy mist. We learn of Alec's power in Breaking Dawn when he attempts to use it on the Cullen family's gathered witnesses. However, the mist hit Bella's 'shield' and went around it as Bella's shield was a bubble protecting the people gathered. Alec did not retract his mist for the entire confrontation in the field as he constantly looked for holes or weak spots in Bella's shield. Twin to Jane, Alec is nearly identical to with the slightly darker hair and lips that aren’t quite as full.

Their Early History: The Volturi early on had spot the young human twins Jane and Alec and saw them as potential people to change. However, frightened humans threatened to burn the twins at the stake so Aro was forced to change them sooner then he wished to as he wanted them to be older.

BIO: Demetri

Name: Demetri
Type: Vampire
Special Ability: Tracker

About Them: Demetri is a member of the empire like Volturi who can can track anyone once he has the tenor of their mind. He can sense and is drawn to a person's mind once he has the ability to recognize it. It is impossible to escape him just as it is impossible to escape (unless you are Bella who is protected from mind-based abilities) Edward being able to read your mind. Appearing very polite, Demetri is a formidable foe. He has an olive complexion with a chalky pallor, dark hair that reaches his shoulders, and crimson eyes. Tall and lean, it also appears that Demetri has a crush on Heidi.

Their Early History: Nothing is known about Demetri before the start of the series. His character remains elusive about his past and we know nothing about how he came to be a vampire, how he came to the Volturi, and how he started to serve under them.

Bio: Jane

Name: Jane

Type: Vampire

Special Ability: Creates Mental Illusions of Pain

About Them: Jane is a vampire in coven known as the Volturi who reside in Volterra, Italy. They are regarded as "royalty" by other vampires because they have lived for well over three thousand years and act as police, enforcing the rule that the existence of vampires be kept a secret from humans. They often send others to travel from Volterra to prevent overzealous covens and renegade vampires from exposing their species. They are guarded by several powerful vampires who have been collected for their powers and skills. Jane is among the Volturi guards due to her ability to create illusions of pain. Jane was there in New Moon when Edward tries to dig him, Alice, and Bella out of the situation he has created. Jane is the one who tortures Edward until he falls and cries out in pain. Jane leads the rest of the Volturi guards in Eclipse to see what the disturbance is in Washington. However, she arrives only after the Cullen family along with the werewolves finish off the hoard of young vampires created by Victoria. Distrusting the Cullen family, Jane is snide and chooses to harass them anyways. Jane is last seen in Breaking Dawn when she comes with the whole of the Volturi to finish off the Cullen coven. However, since her abilities are only mental, Jane is unable to attack the Cullens, werewolves, and everybody else there to protect the Cullen family as Bella shields them all from her attacks. Angry that her abilities she has always been proud of failed her against Bella's shield, Jane is reluctant to walk away from the fight and remains bitter.

Their Early History: The Volturi early on had spot the young human twins Jane and Alec and saw them as potential people to change. However, frightened humans threatened to burn the twins at the stake so Aro was forced to change them sooner then he wished to as he wanted them to be older.

BIO: Marcus

Name: Marcus

Type: Vampire

Special Ability: Can sense relationships

About Them: Marcus was once one of the prominent leaders of the Volturi in Volterra, Italy. He has the ability to sense relationships and his former wife who is now deceased, Didyme, had the ability to make others happy. After the sudden and shocking death of Didyme Marcus became extremely apathetic and disinterested in life. As a result he voted against destroying little Renesmee in an 'almost bored fashion' without so much as a glance to the Cullens and their allies. Marcus has jett black hair with the fiery red eyes.Stephenie Meyer says this of Marcus' ability: "Marcus’s gift is actually quite valuable in the hands of someone who knows how to use it. For example, imagine Marcus on the battle field. He sees the binding ties between the enemy the guard faces. He can tell who the leader is just by watching the way the others are tied to him or her. He can see how to destroy the resistance simply by picking off a few key people. He doesn’t just see romantic relationships, but also ties of family and friends, loyalty and devotion. He can tell if any given person would die for another. Off the field of battle (as the Volturi rarely leave their home), Marcus’s gift is valuable politically (for lack of a better word). It’s an amazing gift in a diplomatic situation. Plus, when you’re sitting on an empire, it’s nice to be able to see when someone’s loyalty starts wavering. Or if anyone is getting too fond of anyone else. Can you see the potential now? Marcus didn’t get where he is with some fluff skill."

Their Early History: Nothing is known about much of Marcus' early history. We do know that he was a vampire not long after Aro's transformation and joined him promptly in the quest for power. After Didyme's transformation by her brother Aro Marcus fell in love and married her but it wasn't long before a jealous and angry Aro murdered his own sister, Didyme, for the sake of power. Whether unfortunately or fortunately, Marcus never knew Aro had been the one who killed Didyme.
